RESOLUTIONS (AGAIN) This is my final report on my 2001 New Year's resolutions. There remain three resolutions I've omitted in my previous reports. Since one of my perennial resolutions is to do what I say I will, it's important to me that I finish my reports. Resolution No. 8 was to look positively at problems and setbacks. This was hard for me this year, since various health setbacks required a lot of time and energy and have, for the time being, eliminated the enjoyment of my principal hobby. Still, I've continued to tell the people around me that something good is going to happen soon and I continue to live in hope. That will have to do for now. Resolution No. 9. was to devote more time to learning, both from reading and from experiencing. I count my efforts as successful in living up to this resolution. I've made a few new friends and I've learned from them. I've had the opportunity to watch a baby grow and learned from him. I've observed many strangers as they pass me on the street and I've learned something from them. And, I've marginally improved my recent (poor) reading habits. I've returned to reading mystery stories and biographies and I've learned from both categories. A well-written mystery, which includes the surroundings of its characters, educates me in addition to entertaining me. I find myself checking facts, thinking about the life of the characters, identifying with some of them. In that way, I live and learn in reading a good mystery. Biographies also educate me, not simply in the bare facts but in ways of thinking and acting to accomplish goals. Finally, I resolved to look for fun in every situation. I must confess that in one sense I accomplished this resolution but in another sense I failed. I did look for fun but I didn't find much. I think that I didn't look hard enough. I continue to believe there is fun in everything if we look for it carefully and accept it when we find it. So, I report mixed results for my resolutions for 2001. I'll have a new list soon, which probably will include many of the same resolutions. I refuse to give up and will continue to try to improve my life, both physically and spiritually, and to help others. If I didn't do everything I wanted to do this year, I'll try again next year. 12-17-01 |
